EAST JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE POLICY 

EFFECTIVE May 2011

ID

• ID must be worn on a cord around the neck-and be visible at all times

SHOES

• Shoes must have laces or straps that remain fastened
• Exposed toes and shoes without backs are illegal
• The student will not wear excessively high heels (2 ½ inches)
• Slippers are unacceptable unless approved by the office
• Socks must be worn
• White socks only are acceptable – 4 inches maximum
• Ankle boots only
• No mesh shoes or net slip on shoes allowed

PANTS

• Only dark khaki with regulation pockets
• Girls may wear plaid pants
• Pants must not be excessively baggy and must be fitted at the waist. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED FOR THE 2009-10 SCHOOL YEAR.
• No holes
• Must be hemmed with no frayed edges or side slits
• No pictures, stripes, or writing other than a brand name
• Must be straight legged.  No carpenter’s or cargo pants (no loops or pockets halfway down the side)
• No jeans
• No Capri or cropped pants
• No corduroy pants
• No shorts or skorts
• No sweatpants or warm-up pants 

SKIRTS

• Plaid
• Must touch the knee
• No leggings or sweatpants may be worn under the skirt

BELTS AND HATS

• HOODED GARMENTS MAY NOT BE WORN ON CAMPUS
• A belt must be worn at all times
• No hats or caps including wool caps, baseball caps, skull caps, and team caps, unless approved by the office
• Buckles must be normal size   No brand names or personalized buckles.
• No oversized buckles are allowed (no larger than 2in x 2in).

SHIRTS

• Students will wear white or blue uniform shirts with the East Jefferson High School logo
• May wear the long or short sleeved white oxford cloth shirts with the EJHS logo
• Only plain white or grey shirts or undershirts may be worn under the uniform
• Shirts must be tucked in at all times
• Collars are to be in the down position
• No unauthorized writing on the shirt
• On Fridays only, club, class, or in-season team shirts may be worn

OUTER WEAR

• Pull over sweatshirts must be EJ logowear only. (can be purchased from school or uniform store)
  
• Windbreakers/Sweater Jackets must be EJ logowear only. (can be purchased from school or uniform store)
  
• East Jefferson High School club and team sweatshirts and windbreakers are also permitted.
• HOODED GARMENTS MAY NOT BE WORN ON CAMPUS
• No trench coats may be worn
• No colored sweatshirts, hoods, stockings, sweatpants, leggings, hats, caps, bandanas etc. 
• During the colder temperatures students will be allowed to wear their heavy no hooded coats outside only.
  

ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE

• The policies created by the “2005-2006 Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students” are still applicable
• No nose rings, tongue rings, or other visible body piercing, except for the ears
• Covering up piercing is unacceptable
• No hoop or dangling earrings larger than the size of a quarter
• No sunglasses indoors
• No hair rollers
• No wallet chains
• No hair picks or combs in the hair.  If it could be used as a weapon it will be taken away from the student and the student will be sent to discipline
• Chains around the neck must be worn inside the shirt
• No aerosol deodorant or aerosol cans on campus
• No head bands or sweat bands
• No blankets or pillows
• No excessive makeup
  

DISCIPLINE FOR DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS

    1^ST and 2^nd offense – After school detention (written by teacher and served with discipline)

    3^rd offense – Referral written by teacher resulting in a NSPC

    4^th offense – Referral written by teacher resulting in detentions and call home for a change of clothing

NO HOODED GARMENTS MAY BE WORN ON CAMPUS

PURSES MUST BE NO LARGER THAN 8 INCHES BY 12 INCHES (8X12 ONLY)
